ionCOM™ / ionSMART™ Lighting Control System

We strongly believe that an efficient lighting system such as ionCORE™ should always be matched to an  appropriate system of lighting controls.

Lighting controls are even more important as a consequence of  new and more efficient light fixtures as well as the introduction of regulations aimed to reduce electricity consumption. Lights should be dimmed when spaces are unoccupied for short lengths of time and they should be switched off during longer periods of inactivity. Future legislation will build on these principles and the trend is certain to increase the use of lighting controls. 

Ceravision’s ionCOM™ / ionSMART™ lighting control system provides a wireless control network that allows users to freely configure their ionCORE™ lighting system, delivering excellent savings in energy whilst ensuring the lighting is operated correctly and providing optimum lighting levels.

Based on  wireless networking, no additional cabling is required and each  luminaire can be installed pre-programmed and ready to deliver  maximum efficiency.

At the heart of the control system is ionCOM™ control software. Its friendly graphical user interface gives a  pictorial overview of the area to be lit, showing an indication of light  levels and the status of individual luminaires. The ionSMART™ ZigBee network allows for messages to be exchanged with each luminaire.

The ionCOM™ control philosophy provides a totally flexible controls solution that is quick to install and set up and which future proofs the lighting scheme.

ZigBee enabled Passive Infra Red (PIR) detectors and light level sensors can be incorporated in to the system and can be configured to control multiple groups. Full diagnostic reports are generated by ionCOM™ with multiple data outputs including lamp life and energy consumption figures to provide the user with important management information.

Future Applications

Energy efficiency is a global driver within many markets and Ceravision’s core technology has the ability to address these markets. Due to the flexible nature of the technology we are able to facilitate a variety of power levels (400 W to 5 kW) and spectra ranging from visible to UV light.


Ceravision’s High Efficiency Plasma (HEP) light is particularly suited to medium and high power applications. The light is emitted from a very small source, which enables Ceravision to accurately focus and distribute the light. This in turn facilitates significantly greater optical performance.

The testing of Ceravision’s High Efficiency Plasma (HEP) lamps in Rothamsted has been underway now for four months. The testing compares Ceravision’s HEP lamps with legacy metal halide lamps and new LED systems and their impact upon the growth of wheat.
