High Efficiency Plasma

High Efficiency Plasma (HEP) technology is a new and unique genre of electrodeless, RF driven lighting invented by Ceravision. It is defined as a light source that is capable of producing at least 90 lumens per system watt. This means that the lumens per watt figure quoted represents the total power drawn from the grid system. Further to this, the unique design of Ceravision proprietary plasma burner allows the efficient collection and distribution of light produced. This translates to a significant decrease in the number of fittings needed to light any given area. Initially, products from our Alvara™ range allow existing lighting set-ups to HALVE the number of fittings required. Therefore, High Efficiency Plasma technology sources are able to halve capital expenditure whilst reducing power consumption by over 50%. High Efficiency Plasma Lighting

How it works

Ceravision's High Efficiency Plasma system is an electrodeless lighting platform that uses radio frequency (RF) in the microwave range to create a high intensity plasma discharge. Ceravision's proprietary lighting platform consists of four integrated elements:

  • a quartz RF resonator and integral plasma burner (lamp);
  • a transition unit (the system which couples the RF energy from the source into the resonator);
  • an RF microwave source in the form of a magnetron and;
  • an (AC) power supply.
The integrated burner and resonator contain an inert gas and metal halide salts. RF microwave energy resonating within the lamp ionizes the gas to form a plasma that combines with the metal halide to vaporize the metal halide salts, emitting an intense, bright light.
